Water Heater Services in Phoenix, AZ
No hot water? Let's fix that today
From a pilot light that won’t stay lit to a full tankless install, Liberty’s expert plumbers diagnose the actual problem, explain your options, and get it done — usually same day. Repair, replacement, and new installs across Phoenix metro and Northern Arizona.

A failing water heater is one of those problems that has a clean ladder of options — and the ladder is exactly where most homeowners get steered wrong. A unit that needs a $200 thermocouple gets sold a $2,500 replacement. A 9-year-old tank that’s already on borrowed time gets a $400 repair that buys six months. Neither one is honest.
We do this differently. We diagnose first, tell you the real condition of the unit, and lay out your options — repair, replace, or upgrade — with the actual costs and the actual lifespan you’d get from each. Then you decide.
Whether you’ve got no hot water right now or you’re planning ahead for a unit that’s getting close, here’s where to start.
Our Water Heater Services in Phoenix
Pick the service that fits your situation. Not sure where to start? Call us — most water heater diagnostics take 15 minutes and you’ll have a clear path forward.
Water Heater Repair
Pilot light won't stay lit? No hot water at the tap? Strange noises from the tank? Most water heater problems are repairable — and we'll tell you straight when they're not. Same-day service in most of the metro.
Water Heater Replacement
When the tank itself has failed — or when a repair just isn't worth it on an aging unit — we pull the old one, install the new one, and haul the dead unit away. Permit pulled, install to code, ready by the end of the day.
Water Heater Installation
First-time install in a new build, relocation to a different spot, or a fresh unit in a home that didn't have one in the right place? We size, vent, and install properly the first time.
Tankless Water Heater Installation
Switching from a tank to tankless? We handle the venting, gas supply upsize, and water connections — and we tell you up front whether your home's current setup will support the tankless unit you're looking at, or whether you'll need additional work to make it viable.
Gas Water Heater Installation
Replacing a gas unit or switching from electric to gas? We run the gas supply, handle the venting, and connect water — all to code, all in one job. Permit included.
Electric Water Heater Installation
Standard electric tank, heat pump hybrid, or a switch from gas to electric? We handle the electrical hookup coordination, water connections, and code-compliant install.
Hybrid Water Heater Installation
Heat pump water heaters cut electric bills significantly in Phoenix's climate — but they require the right space, the right venting, and the right install to work as advertised. We'll tell you whether your home is a good fit before we sell you one.
Water Heater Maintenance
Annual flush, anode rod check, and inspection — the difference between a water heater that lasts 8 years and one that lasts 14. Especially important in Phoenix's hard water.
No matter your situation, our plumbers provide service you can rely on.

Repair, replace, or upgrade? Here's how we think about it
This is the question every water heater call comes down to — and the honest answer depends on three things: how old your current unit is, what’s actually wrong with it, and what your hot water situation will look like over the next 5 to 10 years.
Here’s the framework we use:
Repair makes sense when:
- The unit is under 8 years old
- The failed part is a thermocouple, gas valve, heating element, thermostat, or anode rod
- The tank itself is sound (no leaks from the tank body)
- You're not planning to remodel or change your hot water demand in the next year or two
Replacement makes sense when:
- The unit is 10+ years old (tank water heaters typically last 8–12 years in Phoenix's hard water)
- The tank itself is leaking
- You've already had multiple repairs in the last 2 years
- Energy efficiency improvements would pay for themselves in 3–5 years
Upgrade to tankless or hybrid makes sense when:
- You're replacing anyway
- Your home has the right setup (gas supply, venting space, or for hybrids, an unconditioned utility space)
- You value endless hot water (tankless) or lower operating costs (hybrid)
- You're staying in the home long enough to recoup the higher install cost
When we come out for a repair call, we tell you which category your situation actually falls into. If it’s a clear repair, we repair it. If we’d be putting good money after bad, we say so.

Why hard water shortens every water heater's life
Most water heater warranties assume 6–8 grains per gallon of water hardness. Phoenix tap water averages closer to 17 grains per gallon — more than double the assumed baseline. That has real consequences:
The fix isn’t complicated. Annual flushes, anode rod replacement every 3–4 years, and — if you want to actually solve the problem at the source — a water softener feeding the heater. Either way, knowing what hard water is doing to your unit is the first step in deciding how to handle it.
Sediment builds up faster at the bottom of tank water heaters, insulating the burner from the water it's trying to heat. The result: longer recovery times, higher gas bills, and eventually a burned-out element or cracked tank.
Anode rods get consumed faster. The sacrificial anode rod protects the tank from corroding. In Phoenix water, it can be fully spent in 3–4 years — half its expected life in soft-water markets.
Tankless heat exchangers scale up faster. Without regular flushing, mineral scale builds inside the heat exchanger and the unit either errors out or quietly loses efficiency.
What working with Liberty looks like
Step 1 — We diagnose before we quote
Every water heater call starts the same way: we get to the unit, check its age, inspect the failure, and tell you what's actually wrong before we propose a fix. No "well, you really should just replace it" before we've looked.
Step 2 — We explain your options
For most water heater problems, there are 2 or 3 real paths forward. We lay them out — what each costs, how long each lasts, and which one we'd pick if it were our home. Then you decide.
Step 3 — We fix it right the first time
If we're repairing, we do the repair properly — and we tell you honestly how much life it should buy. If we're replacing, we pull the permit, install to code, haul away the old unit, and leave the install ready for inspection. No charges for parts you didn't need.

Where
we work
We’re based in Anthem and serve the full Phoenix metro
Water heater needs are very different across these markets. Phoenix-area homes deal with hard-water tank failure; Flagstaff and Prescott homes have to think about freeze protection on garage installs and high-altitude combustion adjustments. We’ve worked in both. Call us and we’ll tell you what your area typically looks like.
Water heater questions, answered straight
How much does water heater repair cost in Phoenix?
Depends on what failed. A thermocouple replacement is typically $200–$300. A gas valve is more. A heating element on an electric unit is in between. We give you an upfront estimate before we start work, so you know the real number — not a guess.
How long do water heaters last in Phoenix?
Tank water heaters typically last 8–12 years here. That’s shorter than the national average because of the hard water. Tankless units can last 15–20 years if they’re flushed regularly. If yours is past 10 and starting to act up, repair vs. replace becomes a real conversation.
My water heater is leaking. Should I repair or replace?
If it’s leaking from the tank body itself, it’s almost always a replacement — the tank is done. If it’s leaking from a fitting, valve, or connection, that’s usually a straightforward repair. We can tell within a few minutes which one you have.
Is tankless worth it in Phoenix?
For some homes, yes — endless hot water, smaller footprint, longer lifespan. For others, the upgrade cost (gas supply upsize, new venting) outweighs the benefit. We don’t push tankless on every customer. We’ll tell you honestly whether your home is a good fit.
Can I install a water heater myself?
You can — but in Arizona, water heater installation typically requires a permit, and improper venting on a gas unit is a real safety risk. If you’re handy and confident, that’s your call. If you want it pulled, permitted, and warrantied, that’s what we do.
Do you handle hybrid / heat pump water heaters?
Yes. Hybrid water heaters are an excellent fit for some Phoenix homes — especially those with a garage or unconditioned utility space. We install them, and we’ll tell you up front whether your home is a good candidate.
How fast can you get here for no hot water?
Same day in most of the metro. Call us — we’ll tell you the soonest we can be there.
Are you licensed?
Yes — licensed, bonded, and insured in Arizona. ROC license number is in the footer of every page on this site.
Ready to get your hot water back?
Whether you woke up to a cold shower or you’re planning ahead for a unit that’s getting up there, we’ll diagnose properly, lay out your real options, and get it done. Usually same day.
