Water Softeners & Filtration in Sun City, AZ

Sun City's homes date to the 1960s and 70s, the oldest plumbing we regularly service, and that changes the order of operations: with galvanized and polybutylene pipe still in the walls, treatment decisions start with the pipe.

Sun City homeowners call Liberty for water softeners & filtration because we're local to the Valley, licensed, and answer the phone 24/7. Sun City is Arizona's original 55+ community, with homes from the 1960s and 70s, the oldest plumbing we regularly service. That means galvanized and polybutylene pipe, aging slab copper, and a lot of demand for ADA and comfort-height fixtures. We work patiently and explain things clearly with the retiree homeowners here. You'll get the truth about what's going on, your options in plain English, and a fair price upfront.

Sun City is the original Del Webb active-adult community, built from 1960, which makes it the oldest housing stock we routinely service and a place with very specific plumbing realities. Many of these homes still have their original galvanized steel or, in certain eras, polybutylene supply lines, both of which are now living on borrowed time: galvanized corrodes shut from the inside and rusts the water, while polybutylene becomes brittle and fails at the fittings. Repipes are a steady part of our Sun City work, replacing those failing original lines with PEX or copper before a hidden failure floods a slab home.

What we see on Sun City plumbing

  • Polybutylene and galvanized pipe needing full repipe
  • 1960s–70s slab copper at high slab-leak risk

How a Sun City water softeners & filtration call goes

  1. Test your water

We measure hardness (and on wells, iron, pH, and sediment) before recommending a system.

  2. Right-size the system

Softener grain capacity matched to household size; RO for drinking water; well treatment staged for your specific water.

  3. Install & loop in

Installed at the main with a loop so it protects the whole home, heaters included.

Water Softeners & Filtration in Sun City, FAQ

Do I really need a softener in Anthem?
If you want your water heater, fixtures, and tankless to last, then yes. Our hardness is extreme even for Arizona.
What's different about well water out here?
Wells in Cave Creek and New River can carry iron, sediment, and pressure-tank trouble a city softener won't touch. We test and treat for what's actually there.
How hard is the water in my area, and do I actually need a softener?
Across Anthem, Scottsdale, and Glendale, hardness usually runs 16-20 grains per gallon, which is very hard. If you're seeing white scale on fixtures, spotty glassware, and short water-heater life, softening will protect your plumbing and appliances. We test on-site so the system is sized to your actual number.
What's the difference between a water softener and a reverse-osmosis system?
A softener pulls the hardness minerals out for the whole house, protecting your pipes and heaters. Reverse osmosis is a point-of-use system, usually under the kitchen sink, that cleans up drinking water by removing dissolved solids, chlorine, and contaminants. A lot of homes want both, and the softener actually extends the life of the RO membrane.
Will a softener make my water taste salty?
No. Ion exchange adds a small amount of sodium in proportion to the hardness, and you won't taste it at normal levels. If you're on a sodium-restricted diet, we can set it up with potassium chloride instead, and an RO unit on the drinking tap takes it out entirely.
I'm on a well in Prescott. Can I just install a softener?
Not without a test first. Well water in the high country can carry iron, sulfur, sediment, low pH, nitrates, or bacteria, and a softener does nothing for most of those. We pull a lab test and build the treatment stack around the results, which often means an iron filter or pH neutralizer ahead of any softener.
Does softened water hurt my plants or garden?
Plants generally don't care for the added sodium in softened water. That's why we plumb a bypass or keep an outside hose bib on the hard line, so your irrigation and garden get untreated water while the house gets softened. It's a simple loop decision we make at install.
My Sun City home might have polybutylene or galvanized pipe. Should I repipe?
Likely yes. Sun City's 1960s-70s homes often have original galvanized or polybutylene supply lines, and both fail with age, galvanized by corroding and rusting the water, polybutylene by going brittle at the fittings. A repipe to PEX or copper before a hidden failure floods the slab is the smart move. We'll inspect what you've got and explain it plain.
